Raleigh city councilman wants to hear ideas for Dix property
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A Raleigh city councilman wants your two cents on the city's $52 million purchase of the Dorothea Dix land.
Earlier this month, the city council signed off on a financing deal to pay the state.
Raleigh is going to turn Dix into a destination park.
Councilman Bonner Gaylord is taking suggestions about what you think should happen to the property.
Gaylord said his dream includes a pond with an island stage that would feature the Raleigh skyline during concerts or theater performances.
"This is an amazing asset, possibly a once in a lifetime opportunity for not just my children but my children's children, and, as a community, we need to come together and express all of our opinions on how this park can be great," said Gaylord. "Central Park in New York City, the Eiffel Tower in Paris were once just ideas and became great assets for great cities and I anticipate this park being the same for the City of Raleigh.
Gaylord said the options are endless, but your input is needed.
