Leesville Road construction big headache for drivers
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A $5.6 million Leesville Road widening project will expand the street from 2 to 4 lanes with a center median. It's meant to alleviate congestion on the busy road used by hundreds of drivers each day, but in the meantime, the work has made the problem much worse.
"Cars are just lined up. You got everyone going to school, you got everyone going to work," said Peggy Jenkins, whose backyard looks out on the road. "I've come out my one street here and I'm stuck. I can't go anywhere. You're just sitting there."
"It's not just even the weekdays. On the weekends with church getting in and out. They have police officers there directing traffic. It's almost a seven day a week thing," said Taulbee Davis.
And it looks like the construction won't end any time soon. It was supposed to be done by September 8. Now, it won't be completed until mid-December.
The construction company in charge of the widening - Devere Construction - also spearheaded the delayed Rolesville Bypass project.
The company said the delays this time are weather related.
