Wake Forest Road gets revamped

RALEIGH

Drivers say that Wake Forest Road's lanes end too abruptly and are too narrow.

"I've noticed certain parts of Wake Forest Road is narrow and the traffic as you know and the population in general is building up around Raleigh," driver Larry McCarthy said. "Any help along that line would be greatly appreciated by any driver."

Morning commutes could be a bit messy however, when traveling the road between Six Forks Road and the I-440 interchange.

"I think it should relive some congestion," driver, Hieu Doam said. "Maybe I need to divert my route for the next few months; it's going to be hard on me."

Road crews will break ground on the widening project Monday night. They are adding a lane in both directions, along with new signals, signs and roadway lighting.

They are also widening the on-ramps from Wake Forest Road to the 440 inner and outer beltline.

Construction could run through November. Only nighttime lane closures are allowed, even then at least one lane will always remain open.
