It happened around 9:45 p.m. Friday at the Primio Pizza restaurant on Yadkin Road.
Investigators say Aaron McLeod tried to rob then stab a female employee as she left the restaurant. They say the woman screamed as she struggled with the McLeod.
Officers believe the victim's husband - who was in the restaurant - got into his SUV and ran over the suspect twice.
McLeod is in critical condition at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Police charged the woman's husband with assault with a deadly weapon.
