Several Chatham County law enforcement agencies are looking for a teenager who escaped from a sheriff's deputy Thursday morning.

Officials say they went to the 16-year-old's home to serve papers for violating a court order. The teen was handcuffed and managed to run away into the surrounding wooded area. His name has not been released.

Major Gary Blankenship with the Chatham County Sheriff's Office says a full scale search is underway and concentrated near U.S. 1 and Old U.S. 1. A perimeter has been set up around Moncure and K-9 units are being used in the search.

Area schools were notified about the escape and Moncure School was been placed on lockdown as a precaution. The lockdown was lifted just before noon.

Officials do not consider him to be dangerous because he is still in handcuffs.
