Durham police investigate system flaws

The mayor says he is calling for an /*investigation*/ in hopes of finding out what went wrong before /*Carson'*/s murder.

When 17-year-old Laurence /*Lovette*/ Jr. was charged in the murder of Carson, it prompted a few /*Durham*/ residents to speak out.

"I received an email from a young lady who said she and her husband were burglarized by Mr. Lovette," Bell said.

From the time Durham police arrested Lovette and when he was eventually released from jail, Bell wants to know what went wrong.

"If mistakes were made, we need to know why so we can correct them and they don't happen again," Bell said.

/*Chapel Hill Police*/ is also calling for an investigation to find anyone who may have helped Lovette and /*Demario Atwater*/, also charged with killing Caron. Chapel Hill Police Chief Brian Curran says investigators need the public's help.

"What we're looking for now is associates that they may have had that were aiding them after the homicide," Curran said.

Governor Mike Easley is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to more arrests.
