Teen mother found shot to death in Durham

DURHAM Police were called to an apartment unit on Keystone Place late Sunday night to find 18-year-old Skye Lee shot to death. Lee was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers also found her 10-month-old baby inside the apartment. The baby was unharmed.

Lee was a student at Northern High School. Principal John Colclough released a statement Monday morning stating, "We are deeply saddened by this tragic and senseless loss. Our deepest sympathies are with the family and loved ones of Skye Lee.?

Officers were told that the suspect fled in a blue Chevrolet Caprice with chrome rims. Officers spotted the vehicle approximately an hour later in the 100 block of Young Street. Officers arrested Cory Jiggetts, 19, of Fidelity Drive as he attempted to run out the back door of a house on Young Street.

Jiggetts has been charged with murder and placed in the Durham County Jail without bond.

Durham Police spokesperson Kammie Michael says Jiggetts is the father of the 10-month-old child. Investigators believe the motive for the slaying was domestic.

Northern High School students are currently on spring break and expected to return to class on April 8. School officials say counselors will be on hand to help students and staff deal with Lee's death.
