Businesses charged with dispensing drugs illegally

HOKE COUNTY

Authorities seized legal drugs that were being sold illegally.

Teams of Sheriff's Narcotics Officers, ALE agents and Raeford Police raided three Latino businesses, and carted off several boxes of drugs and medications that were being sold without prescriptions.

Deputies confiscated antibiotics, birth control pills, viagra, and other medications.

A lot of it they say was simply sold over the counter.

"It could be very dangerous, for example the penicillin and stuff you need to know if you are allergic to it and they were dispensing the stuff in vials and with shot needles it could be very dangerous," Chief Deputy, Maj. Gary Hammonds said.

While a raid like this may be a first of its kind, deputies say with the county immigrant population continuing to grow, it will not be their last.

Deputies say the three store owners only face misdemeanor charges of dispensing drugs without a license, and at least one of the businesses also face alcohol violations.
