SBI investigates officer involved shooting

Shots rang out shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday outside the motel. Sheriff Deputies had been following a suspect and two others who eventually stopped their car in the motel parking lot.

"We had a warrant for a subject who was involved in some drug transactions. We followed him into here. That's when we attempted to make the arrest. That's when the problems happened. That's when the shooting broke out." Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison said.

Many motel guests heard the shots. Some are not surprised about the violence and say the area is a common place for drug transactions.

"Had to figure it was a shooting, something of that nature. There's been a lot of activity around here lately," said Cresson Brown a motel guest. "A lot of drug activity, it was police out here last week with a K-9 unit."

The two sheriff officers involved will be placed on administrative leave while the investigation is sorted out by the State Bureau of Investigation. Which is standard procedure after an officer is involved in a shooting.

Wake County's sheriff released few other details about the incident.

"I'm not going to get into that because the SBI is investigating. We'll let them talk to you about that. They are investigating," Harrison said.

Wake County's sheriff did not release the name of the suspect who was shot or the name on the warrant.

The injured suspect was taken to Wake Med for emergency treatment.
