Tornado watch issued in parts of North Carolina

RALEIGH

The storm will not only bring the likelihood for rain, but also severe thunderstorms.

The National Weather Service said Sunday a tornado watch is in effect for portions of North Carolina as a storm system moves across the state.

The greatest threat is projected for south of the Triangle. The main threats are damaging winds, hail and isolated tornadoes.

Hail is predicted to be more than an inch in diameter and winds gusting to 80 mph with dangerous lightning. A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for formation of a tornado.
