The child was identified as 2-year-old Timothy Austin Parnell.
He was found by a neighbor, unresponsive in the victim's backyard above ground pool.
The cause of death appears to be drowning, but the body was sent to the Medical Examiner's office to determine the actually cause.
The father of the child was inside the house at the time he was found by the neighbor.
CPR was administered, but unsuccessful. Chatham County Sheriff Investigators and Department of Social Services are continuing to investigate the case.
The medical examiners office has not released their findings as of this release.
