Crash kills two, injuries one

RALEIGH

Police say a car driven by 25-year-old Alton Brothers hit a tree on Capital Boulevard around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Authorities say he was driving a 2001 Ford Mustang southbound at an estimated minimum speed of 105 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. As he approached the 1800 block of Capital Boulevard, Brothers lost control of the vehicle.

The force of the impact with the tree caused the car to tear in half. The back half of the vehicle remained near the tree, while the front of it continued about 100 feet before coming to rest at the edge of a construction pond.

Brothers and 25-year-old passenger, Jamie Shepherd were thrown from the wreckage into the pond. They were transported to WakeMed, where they subsequently died.

A third passenger, 24-year-old Shebreka Matthews, suffered minor injuries.

Officers closed the southbound lanes of Capital Boulevard for approximately four hours as a result of the wreck.

Police say alcohol impairment is suspected in the crash, which remains under investigation.
