A man being sought for armed robbery drowned Friday in a Raleigh lake.

Police say they went to serve an arrest warrant in connection with an armed robbery just before 4:30 p.m.

Officers say the suspect, 24-year-old Gabriel Lee Miles, saw them and before they could arrest him, he fled the scene and ran behind a business on Trademark Rd.

Miles then entered Carolina Lake and began swimming across. Officers urged him to get out of the water, but he continued.

While in the water, police say Miles became fatigued and began to go under. That's when police dispatched additional crews to assist.

His body was recovered from Carolina Lake around 9:45 p.m.
