Suspicious package found on Chapel Hill streets

CHAPEL HILL

Emergency dispatchers tell Eyewitness News that someone found the package earlier Tuesday evening.

It was discovered in the area of East Rosemary and Henderson Streets. That's one block off of Franklin Street.

Police have blocked off streets in that area, while the Durham County bomb squad blew up the package --which was about the size of a shoebox.

Police tell Eyewitness News that it was not dangerous and did not find anything explosive, but they are keeping the remnants as evidence.

The scene was cleared around 10:30 p.m.
