There's been a possible break in a string of smash and grab robberies in Cary. Police say the suspect was caught in surveillance video on June 21 breaking into a Deli on Buck Jones Road. The suspect threw a rock through the front door of the business shattering the glass door. He then entered the business, forced open the cash register, removed the money and left the business.

Late Thursday night, police say they caught the same man "red handed" breaking into a business at the Cary Crossroads Shopping Center.

Police arrested Cleveland Birdsong, 43, around 11 p.m. Thursday after investigators say he broke into Marble Slab and Great Clips in Crossroads and more businesses in the Shoppes at Kildaire.

Birdsong fled on his moped. Police caught him after a short, slow speed chase - he crashed the moped on Walnut St, just down the road.

Birdsong is being held at the Wake County Jail under a $101,000 bond.
