Several new laws take effect Tuesday.

They include rule changes at the DMV. Officials now need proof of legal residency in the U.S.

The DMV can also cancel someone's license if they are no longer allowed in the U.S.

In addition, the state is setting up a program to help domestic violence victims.

It will give victims ready access to investigators looking into the case and set up an automated system for people with protective orders.
