School buses collide, no major injuries

DURHAM According to Michael Yarbrough with Durham public schools there were no serious injuries. A couple of minor complaints were checked out by EMS.

A total of about 50 students were the buses altogether from Chewning Middle School. The truck was seriously damaged, no dollar estimate at this time. The driver was transported to Duke Hospital for observation.

Two Chewning students were transported –-at the request of parents-– to Duke Hospital for observation. Chewning administrators traveled with the students to meet their parents at the hospital.

The remaining students were transferred to replacement buses and safely transported home.

The school buses involved were bus number 53 and 437. The other vehicle was a North Carolina Public Schools Utility Pickup number 8046.
