Remains found under Fayetteville bridge

FAYETTEVILLE

Authorities were on the scene at the /*Grove Street Bridge*/ near downtown /*Fayetteville*/ all day Thursday.

They responded to a call around 8:15 a.m. regarding the discovery of what was believed to be a body. It is not known if the remains are human or animal.

Upon arrival, police and fire personnel found a body at the bottom of a 25 to 30 foot ravine. It was partially buried under the bridge.

Until the body is exhumed, a determination or race and sex cannot be confirmed.

Authorities needed to remove dirt that collapsed over the body before they could remove it safely. Police said it could be some time before they are able to excavate and examine the remains in detail.

Traffic was down to one lane on the Grove Street Bridge near Dunn Road while authorities processed the scene.
