Man arrested for several Triangle robberies

RALEIGH

Tuesday officers responded to a call concerning a /*robbery*/ at a Wachovia ATM on New Bern Ave.

About 15 minutes later, officers responded to another robbery call at the Bank of American ATM on Oberlin Rd. Investigators determined the incident was an attempted robbery.

While investigating the New Bern Avenue case, officers were notified that a third robbery had occurred at a car wash across the street from The Wachovia.

The suspect and suspect vehicle descriptions were the same in all three cases, and a sawed-off shotgun was reported to have been used in each of the crimes.

A short time after the Bank of America call, an officer observed a car resembling the description of the suspect vehicle traveling on Hillsborough Street near I-440. The officer followed the vehicle until backup arrived. The officers stopped the suspect near the State Fairgrounds.

They detained 23-year-old Keith Robert Webster of /*Durham*/ and charged him with two counts of armed robbery, one count of attempted armed robbery and one count of possession of a weapon of mass destruction (the sawed-off shotgun).

He is being held at the Wake Count Jail.

Due to similarities between the Raleigh crimes and recent robberies in /*Chapel Hill*/, /*Raleigh*/ investigators notified the Chapel Hill Police Department of the Raleigh cases and the suspect's arrest.
