Man charged with severely injuring step-son

CUMBERLAND COUNTY Terry Belanger, 51, of 2271 Nye Court is charged with striking Marshall Glenn Hardison, 27, in the head with a frying pan.

Investigators say the pair had been drinking and arguing since Monday afternoon. Early Tuesday morning another alleged encounter between the pair turned violent.

Hardison was taken via a medical transport helicopter to Chapel Hill Hospitals for treatment to his head injury. His condition is unknown at this time.

Belanger is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center. His bond has not yet been determined. A first court appearance for Belanger is scheduled for Wednesday, August 6, 2008 in a Cumberland County District Courtroom.
