Man murdered behind Raleigh gas station

RALEIGH

The shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday behind the Valero gas station in the 18-hundred block of New Bern Ave. at Raleigh Boulevard.

The store's owner was in the gas station at the time but said he did not hear any gunshots. He said he was alerted to the situation when a man ran into the door, yelling someone had been shot.

At this time, it appears the shooting had nothing to do with the gas station, but workers said they know the victim. However, they do not know the man's name.

Police identified him as 47-year-old Constantino Martinez-Hernandez. They have released little details about the shooting and will only say the victim died from a gunshot wound.

Workers at Valero said Martinez-Hernandez had a sense of humor. He recently joked with them about his mugshot being posted in a tabloid magazine called The Slammer. It's a publication that features local mugshots.
