UNC student athlete arrested for DUI

UNC CHapel Hill student athlete Christopher Kearney was arrested at 2:17am Sunday morning. According to police, Kearney was driving towards downtown Chapel Hill and while coming up the hill, left the roadway to the right, went up on sidewalk, struck a rock wall/retaining wall and two people.

The accident happened at the curve on Columbia Street as MLK blends into Columbia just before Rosemary near downtown.

Kearney, 20, is charged with driving while impaired, provisional licensee (under the age of 21 and drinking), underage drinking, reckless driving, felony hit-and-run. It was also reported that he was trying to leave the scene by walking away. He also had two fake ID's, so was also charged with two counts of having fictitious ID.

Kearney recorded a .18 on the breathalizer and his bond is set at $50,000.

This accident still under investigation.
