Students robbed in two separate incidents

DURHAM A Duke student reported being robbed at 2 p.m. Sunday while walking on the sidewalk with a female companion near the intersection of Erwin Road and Morreene Road., adjacent to the Duke campus.

The student said a young black male jumped on his back and took his money after making a motion indicating he had a weapon. The assailant then reportedly ran off. No injuries were reported.

The student, who contacted Duke Police shortly after the incident, described the assailant as a short dark-skinned male who appeared to be about 15-years-old and 150 pounds. He reportedly was wearing a white T-shirt and gray sweat pants.

The incident follows an off-campus robbery involving three Duke students at about noon Saturday, at Campus Walk.

The students said they were helping a friend move into the Chapel Towers apartments when a man who indicated he had a gun robbed them.

They described the man as a bald black male of medium build, in his 20s. They said he took their money and then ran away. No injuries were reported. The students did not report the incident to Duke Police until after midnight.
