Police: Duke robberies may be related

DURHAM

At least four students were robbed in two separate incidents over the weekend.

The descriptions of the robbers in both incidents are different. But, authorities haven't ruled out the possibility the assailants could be working together, targeting students as they head back to class for the fall semester.

Officers with /*Duke University*/ and the /*Durham Police Department*/ spent the morning knocking on doors and handing out crime alert fliers near the intersection of Mordecai and Morreene Roads.

That is near the area where a Duke University student reported being robbed on Sunday afternoon as he walked with a female friend.

The student told police a man made a motion as though he had a gun. He stole their money and ran.

The day before three Duke students reported a similar incident at the Chapel Towers apartments off Morreene Road.

Investigators say the students were helping a friend move into their apartment when a man claiming to have a gun approached them. He took their money and fled the scene.

None of the students were injured. Police are urging students to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity on or near campus.
