Event raises Carson scholarship funds

CHAPEL HILL University of North Carolina Student Body President J.J. Raynor and other members of student government gathered with Chancellor Holden Thorp and students from across campus Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. to kick off the next phase of fund-raising for the student-driven Eve Marie Carson Scholarship.

As envisioned by former UNC student body president Eve Carson, the scholarship will go to a junior at Carolina who has demonstrated leadership and community involvement at the campus, local and/or global level. The scholarship will support the student's senior year at Carolina.

Carson, a Morehead-Cain scholar, was found shot to death in a Chapel Hill neighborhood on March 5. Laurence Lovette, 17, and Demario Atwater, 21, have been charged with Carson's death.
