Will Raleigh Wide Open be delayed?

RALEIGH Raleigh Wide Open Three is planned for this Friday and Saturday. But the mayor of Raleigh and other city leaders are looking at contingency plans.

Forecasters predict the storm's remants could cause heavy rains, winds, maybe even tornadoes here in Wake County toward the end of the week.

Mayor Charles Meeker stated, "We'll just have to wait and see what happens. Weather is very unpredictable, it's still a long way away, we'll see where we are in a couple of days."

The previous two "wide open" celebrations have brought tens of thousands to downtown. This year's two-day long celebration will feature 30 bands and everyone will be welcome to check out the new convention center.

Mayor Meeker says a decision as to whether plans for Raleigh Wide Open need to be changed will be made late Wednesday or early Thursday.

The Mayor continued, "Well there are a lot of things you could do. Part of it is you could take some of the events inside, since we have a new, big convention center to hold a lot of people. Secondly, we could change it by a day, Saturday, Sunday instead of Friday, Saturday. If the weather really is going to be bad, we could just go back to next weekend."

There are many options so local residents will just have to wait and see how Hurricane Hanna progresses along with the Mayor.
