Officials say Deputy Adam Klutz was shot shot while responding to a 911 hang up call in Caldwell County Saturday.
The officer with him was also shot, but his bullet proof vest protected him.
Authorities believe 32-year-old Army veteran Skip Brinkley could be responsible for the attack.
