Wrong way driver causes pile-up

A driver traveling in the wrong direction on Highway 401 south, near Wake Tech's main campus, caused a pile-up. According to accident report, 23-year-old Adam Lightsey of Pine Level did not see the median on Highway 401 as he drove south in the north bound lanes.

A minivan was one of two cars Lightsey hit. A third driver was able to swerve and land in a ditch.

The woman driving the minivan, 52-year-old Clarice Davis, was the only one injured. She was taken to Wake Med. Troopers say she should be okay.

"Very lucky, very lucky," Highway Patrol Trooper Matt Cape said. "If it happened further down the road at 9 p.m. with students coming out of Wake Tech. Volume of traffic would've been worse and speeds would've been faster too."

Authorities say alcohol and speed are not factors -- it was a case of someone one who didn't know where they were going.
