He is charged with 50 counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a child and an additional 50 counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a child.
Durham Police say the incident is still under investigation and more charges could follow.
Godwin is being held on a $2.5 million bond.
Investigators believe Godwin is involved in the internet distribution of hundreds of child pornography files.
