Teen charged in Durham murder

DURHAM

Deamonte Brooks, 18, is charged with killing 18-year-old Nathan Elmore.

Police say Brooks was involved with the shooting of four teenagers inside an apartment on Glendale Ave. last weekend. Police have not filed charges in the murder of a second victim, 19-year-old Shelton Henderson.

Police also charged Brooks for robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault inflicting serious injury in connection with a robbery that occurred approximately 20 minutes after the shooting on Glendale Avenue.

A 38-year-old male told officers he walked out to his car on Mangum Street around 11:40 p.m. on November 8 and was approached by two males.

One male pointed a gun at his face and demanded money. The victim gave the male his wallet, which did not contain any money. When the male realized the wallet did not have cash in it, he struck the man on the head with the gun.

The man was not seriously injured.
