Man arrested in attempted Taco Bell robbery

DURHAM Police arrested a Durham man and charged him with the attempted armed robbery at Taco Bell on North Duke Street. Officers arrested Shawn Chris Dula, 19, at his home on Wyldewood Road Friday.

Officials say the incident happened at Taco Bell around 10 p.m. on November 26.

Two men, who had apparently been hiding in the bathroom, entered the main section of the business and attempted to rob the employees and business at gunpoint.

One man tried to jump over the counter, but slipped and his gun discharged. No one was injured. The men went through the pockets of at least one employee, but ran from the business without taking anything.

Dula was charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, three counts of second-degree kidnapping and one count of discharging a firearm within the city limits. He was placed in Durham County Jail under a $500,000 bond.
