Erin Gould suffered life-threatening head injuries. According to family members, she is responding to treatment.
The Corporal was charged Saturday and is being held without bail.
Investigators say Jonathan Gould called police to say he had been knocked unconscious when he returned home from a late-night job and awoke to find his wife had been attacked.
He later confessed to attacking his wife himself.
Crime Scene Investigators and the SBI Lab are working to determine if they have the weapon used in the attack.
