Raleigh Police searching for chase suspect

RALEIGH The police chase began according to officials when an officer spotted a car that had been reported stolen around 11 p.m. Monday.

The car was at the intersection of Martin Luther King and Raleigh Boulevards when the officer attempted to stop the vehicle.

The chase ended at the dead end of E. Lenoir Street when the vehicle wrecked. The driver fled and the passenger, 16-year-old Dakarai Raquan McGowan, was taken into custody.

McGowan is charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and possession of stolen goods.

According to police, the car-theft victim, Dieudonne Zodulua, said he had recently purchased the vehicle and was showing it to a number of people when a female suspect got into the car and drove away.

Zodulua reported the crime shortly before 5 a.m. Tuesday. Later in the day, he was at an apartment complex on Orchard Hollow Drive when he saw two individuals he associated with the vehicle theft.

Those individuals went into an apartment. Two male suspects then emerged from the same apartment. One of the displayed a handgun and struck the victim with it, knocking him to the ground where he was allegedly kicked and punched. The victim fled and called 911.

Investigations of the vehicle theft, robbery and assault are continuing and additional arrests are anticipated.
