The accident happened on Highway 87 south of the Gray's Creek community, when a Chevy Tahoe slammed into the back of a Ford Taurus that was stopped or stalled on the highway.
The Taurus was knocked about a 100 feet down the road. The back of the car was completely crushed.
McBride's 77-year-old grandfather and his two parents were also involved in the crash.
McBride was trapped in his car seat. Police say he was not breathing, but he did have a pulse. A police officer at the scene and gave him CPR, before he was taken to the hospital.
McBride's grandfather has critical injuries. His parents are reportedly okay.
The driver of the Tahoe was not seriously hurt, but charges are pending.
The investigation into what caused the collision is ongoing.
