The Charlotte native set UNC single-season records in 2008 for 1, 222 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. In his final game against West Virginia in the Meineke Car Care Bowl, he caught eight passes for a UNC-bowl record 217 yards and three touchdowns.
Nicks said he met with Coach Butch Davis after the bowl game to discuss his intentions. Davis said he has spoken to several NFL people on Nicks' behalf.
"Carolina has been a special place for me," Nicks said. He thanks his teammates, the coaching staff and the fans for supporting him during his time in Chapel Hill.
The 2009 NFL is scheduled for April 25-26 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
