Several houses burned in Hoke Co

A grass fire spread through a neighborhood in Hoke County Friday setting several homes ablaze.Firefighters say it began when someone was burning trash in a steel barrel and strong winds spread the sparks.

Pictures from Chopper 11 HD showed a wide swath of lawn burned around several homes. Many were damaged and at least one home was totally destroyed.

There was also damage to sheds and outbuildings. Even a boat burned.

It happened near the Hoke/Cumberland County line in the Twelve Oaks subdivision on Kernstown Road.

The fire was so big that Cumberland County firefighters came in to help Hoke County firefighters battle the fire. They say it is under control.
