Train derails near Rocky Mount

A cargo train leaving Rocky Mount derailed Monday afternoon tossing more than a dozen rail cars off the tracks.The accident happened around 3:30 p.m. near the Virginia border in Seaboard in Northampton County. The freight train had just left Rocky Mount.

CSX officials say 16 to 19 cars derailed when the 94 car train jumped the tracks.

CSX says there were no injuries and no hazardous materials spilled.

No one knows yet what caused the derailment.
