She called to her sister, and with the help of other family members, got her disabled mother out of the house. The Dudley Fire Department put out the blaze which caused about $1,500 worth of damage.
Wednesday night, deputies were called to the same address when a neighbor driving by saw flames in the carport of the home. The neighbor was able to put out the majority of the fire with a garden hose. No one was at home when the second fire started. This time, the damage was about $1,100.
Wayne County Sheriff C.A. Winders is offering a $1,000 reward for information the leads to an arrest in the fires.
"Whoever the culprit is has no respect for human life or the consequences of their actions. This home was occupied by three ladies ranging from 50 years of age to 80 years of age, one of them handicapped!" he said in a statement released to the media.
Winders said there were some written threats made relating to the arsons, but he wouldn't release the contents of the notes.
"These victims are respectable people and there is no way any of them have done anything to deserve this type of retaliation or revenge,” he said.
