A local animal shelter is caring for cats taken from a Raleigh home. According to the SPCA of Wake County, 70 cats were taken after the owner requested help.

Authorities say when they went to the home, they found dozens of cats -- mostly Japanese bobtails. The SPCA in Garner has 20 of the pets and 50 were taken to various animal shelters.

Wake SPCA workers told Eyewitness News the cats are in good shape and were treated well, but the owner could not afford to care for 70.

Raleigh police charged the owner with animal cruelty because of unsanitary conditions found in her home.
