Roosters henpecked by council

CHAPEL HILL Town Council voted Monday night to allow small-scale chicken farming inside town limits.

Until now, chickens were only allowed in low-density zoning districts, meaning only about 140 households could keep them. The new rules expand that to over seven thousands homes.

Town planners say only about 10 to 20 households currently keep chickens.

Roosters were banned because they're generally much noisier than hens.
