Raleigh suggests take out your own trash

RALEIGH Currently, residents can sign up to have city workers go into their back yards and wheel their trash out. Only residents who are unable to roll their carts to the curb are supposed to sign up for the service.

It is also available to anyone 65 or older, but you do not have to verify your need.

City leaders think too many people who don't need the service may be using it. Potentially, that may cost the City $450,000 a year.

A committee will study whether rules requiring citizens to prove they need the help should be put in place.
