Woman fakes burglary to avoid paying

HALIFAX COUNTY The Halifax County Sheriff's Office said it responded to a residence on February 27 in reference to a burglary.

After an investigating, detectives determined the homeowner, April Clements, reported a crime that never happened.

They say she did not want to pay for some items she rented, so she removed her property and her roommate's property from the home, staged a break-in and then reported it to authorities.

Authorities recovered a flat screen TV, a Playstation2, a DVD player, a lap top computer and other property that was listed stolen.

Deputies arrested Clements today and charged her with filing a false police report and larceny.
