Honey Baked Ham employee shot

CARY It happened at the Honey Baked Ham Store around 8:30 p.m.

Cary Police say the incident was an attempted robbery. They say as an employee closed the store he was held up at gunpoint then shot.

One eyewitness says he saw the commotion as he and his family walked out of a shoe store next door.

"The manager of Honey Baked Ham apparently was standing in the middle of the parking lot screaming help and he had been shot," eyewitness Chris Kidd said. "So we turned around and moved everybody back into the DSW store and got everybody to the back of the store and everybody got down and we called 911 and waited for the Cary police."

Witnesses say the employee was shot in the stomach.

"The person who had been shot, who was the manager of the store I believe, walked back over, he was helped over there and he sat on the wall until the ambulance came to get him," Kidd said.

A manhunt is currently underway for the attempted robber. The suspect is described as a young white man wearing a hoodie. The suspect was last seen running away from the area.

"We have responded to the scene with numerous units as well as detectives and K9 officers, attempting to locate the suspect, but we have not been successful at this time," Cary Police Department Capt. Michael Williams said.

Anyone with information should call Cary Police.
