The investigation began in late November after the department got complaints about alleged misconduct.
Lofton is free on $10,000 bond. His trial is set for May. He was fired by the department on December 9.
In a statement sent to the media, the department said "The RMPD does not condone wrongdoing of our employees and this investigation demonstrates that the Department can and will police themselves in accordance with the laws of this State, Constitution and their departmental policies."
