Prevatte was not seriously injured. Authorities say Williams also nearly struck another deputy during the incident.
It happened during a checkpoint at the intersection of Beulah Brown Road and Minter School Road in Sanford. When officer Prevatte approached Williams' car, he allegedly smelled marijuana.
Authorities say Williams began to drive away as Prevatte reached into the vehicle to turn it off.
