North Carolina's school calendar could see big changes soon.A House sub-committee approved an earlier start to the school year on Monday. The full House will vote on the issue later on this week.

The change would let school districts start the year on August 8. Currently, school cannot start before August 25.

The tourism industry is fighting the change, because they say its afraid an earlier start dates will cut into traditional summer vacations.
