The state Republican Party has elected a new leader at its convention in Raleigh.Former Raleigh Mayor Tom Fetzer was voted the party's new chairman on Saturday.

He was up against four different candidates. The incumbent, Linda Daves, decided not to run again.

State Republicans say they are hoping new leadership will give them a boost.

Since 2006, they've lost their majority in the state's congressional delegation. And last year, the state's electoral votes went to Democrats for the first time since 1976.
