ConAgra hero laid to rest

GARNER Hundreds gathered at Smithfield Community College to honor and remember Lewis Watson, Jr. His family would have held his funeral at his church, but they realized there wouldn't be enough room.

Coworkers say Watson died when he ran back into the collapsed building to try and rescue someone else. Neither made it out.

Friends and family said Monday that Watson - a husband and father of three teenagers - was a dedicated, selfless, and loving man who loved his family and his church, who worked hard, and who always put other people first.

"That's exactly what he would do - putting someone else first - doing sacrifices," said friend Keely Prince.

"He's my hero, you know, because that was the type of person - he'd go out of his way to try to help people," said uncle Ernest Watson.
