Man wanted in father, son murders

Police are searching for a suspect in a double murder that happened late Tuesday.Residents in the apartments on Watauga Road said they heard multiple shots and called police.

When officers arrived, they found Joe Hawkins - a Navy veteran in his 50s - and his son Alexis Hawkins - possibly in his 20s - both shot to death.

Homicide detectives have issued warrants for 20-year-old Mario Jacquez Boykin, charging him with two counts of first degree murder, first degree burglary, robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy.

Police said Boykin may be in a blue Chevrolet Tahoe and should be considered armed and dangerous. They also said he may be in the company of other individuals associated with the crime.

Detectives are asking that anyone with information on the whereabouts of Boykin are urged to call CRIMESTOPPERS at 483-8477 or the Fayetteville Police Department Homicide Unit at 433-1871.
