Father dies rescuing son from waterfall

Authorities say a man who died rescuing his son from a waterfall apparently got his leg stuck in a hole and drowned.According to the Asheville Citizen-Times, it happened Sunday afternoon at Quarry Falls off of US 64 between Highlands and Franklin in Macon County.

The names of the man and his son have not been released. The son is believed to be 11 or 12 years old. He was taken to the hospital and then released.

Rescuers told the newspaper they received a call about a boy who was stuck in the waterfall, but they boy was out when they arrived and the father was stuck.

Authorities say pressure kept the man pinned down and rescuers had to rappel to reach him.
